SoG - Statistik ohne Grenzen (Barrierfree Statistics)

In today’s digital world, a sound understanding of data use and processing is essential for everyone, particularly in the context of artificial intelligence. Statistical literacy is essential for developing this understanding.

We are an interdisciplinary team at the Georg-August University of Göttingen that creates accessible educational videos on a variety of topics. Our goal is to create teaching materials that help students develop key competencies, regardless of their field of study, prior knowledge, or individual learning needs. Our primary areas of focus include data analysis, statistics, and mathematics. The provided materials cover topics including data and data worlds, probability, statistical measures, statistical modeling, and artificial intelligence (AI).

In line with the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, we proactively strive accessibility in higher education. From the outset, considering the needs of students with disabilities and chronic illnesses is integral to the development, design, and implementation of our educational materials, and shapes the process throughout. By adopting this inclusive approach, we aim to enhance the quality of teaching and learning for all students.

To ensure optimal accessibility of our videos and materials, we have established a student advisory board that reviews our content from multiple perspectives and accompanies and supports the process throughout. To this end, our project is supported by Deaf and hard-of-hearing students, blind and visually impaired students, students with motor impairments, and neurodivergent students. Students on the advisory board participate in the design process and actively contribute their ideas for the design of the instructional videos.

Together, we provide educational materials in spoken German with and without subtitles, with audio descriptions, and in German Sign Language with and without subtitles. Descriptive transcripts are available as well.
