The professorship's main areas of research are sustainable finance, risk management, and behavioral finance. It maintains close research ties with the Centre for Financial Research (CFR) at the University of Cologne, the Frankfurt Institute for Risk Management and Regulation (FIRM), and the RoZetta Institute in Sydney, Australia. Sustainable finance deals with the integration of sustainability aspects into companies' financial decisions and the design of financing instruments. Our research focuses on innovations in sustainable debt capital. Risk management deals with the identification, assessment, and control of various types of risks. The aim is to secure the stability and value of companies through strategies such as hedging and the use of risk models and specific financial instruments. Behavioral finance deals with deviations from classical utility theory in the decision-making behavior of financial market participants. This also includes psychological phenomena that drive financial market decisions. Our research focuses in particular on regret theory and the role of sustainability preferences.
