Who is it for?
Students can apply if they plan internships or study abroad stays, or if they intend to do research for their thesis abroad.
Students and doctoral candidates can apply if they plan to attend language courses or subject-specific courses abroad. Since not all stays abroad are eligible for funding without restrictions, we kindly ask you to read the eligible measures in the application portal carefully. -
How do I apply?
Applications are submitted via the Santander Open Academy plattform*. You can access the application portal here (available in German only).
The application deadline is March 31, 2026. -
Can I apply for Santander Outgoing Scholarships and PROMOS simultaneously?
It is possible to apply for both a PROMOS scholarship and a Santander Outgoing Scholarship to increase your chances of receiving funding. You can apply for the PROMOS scholarship here.
The scholarships are offered by Santander Consumer Bank AG. The selection criteria and the decision on awarding the scholarships are determined by the University of Göttingen.

* Although the scholarships are awarded through the University of Göttingen, applicants must apply via the Santander Open Academy platform. Regarding Article 14, paragraph 1 a) and b), and Article 13, paragraph 1 a) and b):
The data controller responsible for the collection and processing of data is Universia Holding / Santander Open Academy, Ciudad Grupo Santander, Avda. de Cantabria s/n, 28660 Boadilla del Monte (Madrid), Spain.
Regarding Article 14, paragraph 1 c):
The collection and processing of data is necessary to conduct a selection process for scholarships and to grant scholarships to selected individuals. This is based on Article 6, paragraph 1 a) of the GDPR, which establishes the lawful basis for processing.

Regarding Article 14, paragraph 2 a):
Data will be stored for the duration of the contractual relationship between Universia Holding and the users, as specified in the Terms of Use (https://www.santanderopenacademy.com/en/legal/terms.html).
Regarding Article 14, paragraph 2 c) and d):
You have the right to obtain information about your personal data from Universia Holding / Santander Open Academy and the University of Göttingen, as well as the right to rectification, deletion, or restriction of processing of your data, and the right to object to processing, as well as the right to data portability.
If data processing is based on your consent, you may withdraw your consent at any time. Data processing carried out prior to withdrawal remains lawful; the withdrawal only applies to future processing. In this case, your data will be deleted immediately.
Regarding Article 14, paragraph 2 e) and Article 13, paragraph 2 d):
